What type of lenses should I use with the patented Airlock mounting system?
Polycarbonate and mid to high index lenses are the lenses of choice. Top

Is there a minimum edge thickness needed for this system?
It is recommended to have a minimum edge thickness of at least 2.0mm nasally and temporally. Top

What if my lens edge is thicker than the height of the pins?
The lens thickness has little bearing on the effectiveness of the mounting. It is held in place with pressure from the sides of the drill hole, and thickness of the lens has little effect on the mounting. If drilled to the correct diameter, the mounting will hold the lens securely. Top

How do you remove the mounting when the lens edge is thicker than the height of the taper lock pin?
If the lens edge is thicker than the height of the taper lock pin is tall, insert the metal pin portion of the 3 prong tool into the drill hole from the backside of the lens and gently push against the taper lock pin. Top

When I use bushings other than the ones supplied, the mounting does not mount properly. Why?
It is absolutely critical that you use the supplied bushings for this mounting system. You can re-use the ones in the demo lenses, the new ones supplied with the chassis or the ones in the drilling kit. The inside of these bushings match the angle of taper that is on the taper lock post of the mounting, creating a tight uniform fit. In addition, these bushings are split from top to bottom in order to prevent accidental breakage of the bushing when mounting, and to prevent possible damage to the lens. Bushings other than the ones supplied will not match the required specifications for Airlock. Top

Why do I need to use your drill bits?
Truthfully you don't, but if you do utilize the bits and burs supplied, it will make glazing and drilling of the lenses much easier. The drill bit is 2.2mm,. The 1.2mm bur is supplied because it allows you to notch the lenses to the proper size with a single cut without requiring additional filing to open the notch. Top

What is the purpose of the gray rubber pad enclosed in the drilling kit?
The gray rubber pad is for resting the endpiece when mounting the lenses. You place the endpiece on the gray rubber pad and utilize the 3 prong tool to push the lens onto the mounting. The pad prevents the lens from flexing (which can cause lens breakage) and protects the finish of the frame. Top

How do I adjust the Airlock frames?
Pantoscopic and retroscopic adjustments are easy. While holding the lens and mounting in one hand, simply bend the temple up or down to the required angle. The bend should be made on the temple as close to the lens as possible.

To adjust the pads, use nose pad pliers and grab the pad arm/pad as you would normally. Move the pad side to side, forward and backward to put the pad into the proper position. Rotate the pad on its own axis to create the correct flare angle to fit the contour of the customer's nose. Top

Why is the frame made of Beta Titanium rather than pure Titanium?
Beta Titanium is better suited for this type of mounting due to its superior flexibility relative to pure Titanium. Beta Titanium has the same hypo-allergenic and corrosion resistant properties of pure Titanium, while providing greater strength, resilience and elasticity. Top

Can I interchange lens shapes with other chassis colors?
Absolutely. That is one of the reasons why we created the chassis only program. Just note that each lens shape comes with its own special drilling parameters to accommodate the mountings for that particular lens shape. Top

I have a really thick prescription, will the screws hold or even reach to lock the lens?
Airlock is a screwless system and is dependent on a minimum edge thickness of 2.0mm. Thicker lenses can be mounted on the Airlock frames without concern. Please consult your optical professional to advise you on whether this mounting is right for your prescription. Top

What if I want to sell Airlock, but do not want to glaze it?
We can provide you with an approved list of laboratories that are trained in fabricating lenses for these frames. You can obtain that list through the Marchon Customer Service department or from your local sales representative. This list will be updated from time to time. Marchon disclaims any express or implied warranty for the work performed by any of these laboratories. Top

What if my local lab is not on your approved lab list?
Please have them contact:

Mr. A. Silver, F.N.A.O.
Senior Manager of Quality Control / Production

mail:
Marchon Eyewear
35 Hub Drive
Melville, N.Y. 11747

or e-mail:
asilver@marchon.com

Mr. Silver will discuss the parameters for qualification with them. Top

Does Airlock come with a Polarized sun clip?
At the moment, there are no clip-ons available for Airlock. Top

What is the prescription limitation for this mounting?
We would prefer to leave that answer to the optical professional since there are many variables involved with prescription lens thickness and weight. Power of the prescription, decentration of the lens, lens material, lens shape and lens size are all variables that can effect the thickness and the weight of the lenses and whether this mounting is appropriate for a specific prescription. Top

There is a piece of plastic in my Airlock case that does not allow me to close the case, or even insert the frame. What should I do?
The plastic piece in the case is to keep the case from being damaged in transit. Simply remove it and dispose of it. You should have no further issues inserting the frame into the case and closing it. Top

What is the website for the Doctors to use to find an approved lab?
Please contact your Airlock Sales Representative, as they can provide you with the names of authorized labs in your area. Top

What colors, sizes and shapes do the Airlock frames come in?
Airlock comes in 8 shapes and 8 colors for the ophthalmic collection. The colors are Silver, Blue Chrome, Gunmetal, Bronze, Burgundy, Gold, Violet and Sage. The shapes range from ovals and squares to various geometric shapes.

It is best to see the collection either in person or in the Airlock catalog. Please contact your Airlock Representative to set up an appointment or to obtain a copy of the catalog. Top

Where can I see your collection of rimless eyewear?
Please contact your Airlock representative to view the collection. Feel free to call Marchons' customer service department to find out who is carrying the collection in your area, and to leave a message for that representative. Top

How fast (rpm) does the drill have to go when I drill the lens? Are there any limitations in what base curve can I use?
On polycarbonate lenses, use a drill speed of about 12,000 - 15,000 rpm. Please be advised that Marchon strongly recommends the use of polycarbonate lenses with this system. Top

What is the best way to adjust Airlock frames?
To adjust the temple bend behind the ear, adjust it as you would a standard temple. Nose pad adjustments should be made with a nose pad pliers. You can move the pads in and out, side to side, and rotated on it's own axis. Pantoscopic and retroscopic adjustments are achieved by holding the lens mounting area on the front and the back, and bending the temple up or down as needed as close to the lens surface area as possible.
